Psychotherapy with Asher

Co-director of affirmative therapy collective

Asher specializes in therapeutic work focused on eating disorder recovery, complex trauma, dialectics and duality, and macro-level and systemic oppression.

They find deep fulfillment in therapeutic work that brings your past into the room as a way to explore current behaviors, and also provides concrete coping skills to help manage day-to-day life.

They offer deep, unending compassion to all of their clients and believes that all people are valuable simply because they exist.

Asher’s therapeutic practice is guided by compassion, validation, and reducing toxic shame.

They believe that lived experience and the client should guide all therapeutic work.

Founded by Lauren Canonico, we at ATC can support you in better understanding how your past informs your present, or in examining here and now moments you’d like to deepen or improve upon. Primarily trained in relational psychotherapy and trauma treatment, ATC psychotherapists offer special insights to those with relationship problems, LGBTQ+/GSM issues and those experiencing discomfort and disconnection with their bodies, whether based in trauma, chronic pain or illness, gender dysphoria, chronic dieting or disordered eating.

ATC psychotherapists focus on developing a strong partnership with you, and in doing so will help you better understand yourself and your relationships.

ATC does not directly participate in managed care, but remains a good option for those who have out-of-network reimbursement or out-of-network benefits.

Virtual Therapy

Is virtual therapy as effective? While everyone is unique and may require individual accommodations, virtual therapy is considered to be as beneficial as in-person therapy. There are also actions that one can take to prepare their own space for therapy sessions in order to create a calm, private, and comfortable space for your appointments. Virtual appointments also offer a much higher level of flexibility for both clinician and client.

Sliding Scale Pricing

Sliding scale is available, though all sliding scale spots are currently full. If you are interested in working together but cannot afford full fee, you are welcome to fill out the interest form below and indicate your need for sliding scale. There are currently other clinicians at Affirmative Therapy Collective who may have sliding scale availability.
